Libya, region in North Africa west of Egypt
Libya designated the North African region west of Egypt, particularly the coastal areas known to the Greco-Roman world. In ancient geography, it often referred broadly to the African continent beyond Egypt. Acts 2:10 mentions Jews from the parts of Libya around Cyrene among those present at Pentecost, representing the widespread Jewish diaspora.

Senses
1. sense 1 Acts 2:10 includes Libyan Jews among the international crowd at Pentecost who heard the gospel in their own languages. The reference to 'the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene' specifies the Cyrenaica region, an important area of Jewish settlement. Cross-linguistic evidence (Libya, Libýes, Libye) preserves the ancient geographical designation for this North African territory.
