ἔνεδρ-ον G1749
ambush; a place of lying in wait, trap; also hindrance or obstruction
This term designates a concealed position where someone lies in wait to attack—an ambush in military or hunting contexts. The Septuagint employs it for the Hebrew word describing Joshua's tactical ambush against Ai. In later usage it broadened to mean any hindrance or obstruction that blocks progress. The dual semantic range reflects how a hidden trap can physically obstruct one's path.
