N-DFP  |  30× in 1 sense
Teaching, doctrine; the content or act of authoritative instruction, especially the teachings of Jesus or the apostles.
Didache denotes both the act of teaching and the substance of what is taught. The crowds are astonished at Jesus' didache because he teaches 'as one having authority' (Matt 7:28, Mark 1:22). It is used of the apostolic teaching in Acts 2:42 and of doctrinal content that can be sound or corrupt (Rom 16:17, 2 John 9-10). Spanish distinguishes 'doctrina' (content) from 'ensenanza' (activity), but the Greek term spans both. German 'Lehre' similarly covers teaching-as-content and teaching-as-practice. The word appears prominently in the early church's vocabulary for the transmitted body of Christian instruction.

Senses
1. teaching, doctrine Authoritative instruction or doctrine, covering both the activity of teaching and the body of content conveyed. When applied to Jesus (Matt 7:28, Mark 1:27), it highlights the striking authority of his teaching compared to the scribes. In Acts 2:42, it names one of the four pillars of early church life. Paul warns against didache that deviates from the apostolic standard (Rom 16:17). The breadth of the term—from classroom act to creedal substance—is confirmed by its varied multilingual renderings. 30×
