Derbe, city in Lycaonia where Paul ministered and made disciples
Derbe was a city in the Roman province of Galatia, in the region of Lycaonia. It represented the southeastern limit of Paul's first missionary journey. After being stoned in Lystra and left for dead, Paul traveled to Derbe where he and Barnabas made many disciples without recorded opposition. The city appears again in Acts 16 when Paul returns with Timothy. Derbe's location made it a strategic outpost for the gospel's spread into the interior of Asia Minor. It was home to Gaius, one of Paul's traveling companions.
