† נָבֵל vb. sink or drop down, languish, wither and fall, fade (NH id.; Assyrian nabâlu, destroy, DlHWB 443 f. Arabic نَبَلَ v, viii. die; Aramaic נְבֵילָא corpse);— Qal Pf. 3 ms. נ׳ Is 40:7, 8 Je 8:13; 3 fs. נָֽבְלָה Is 24:4(×2); Impf. 3 ms. יִבּוֹל ψ 1:3 + 4 times (on form cf. † [אָמַל] vb. be weak, languish (cf. Arabic أَمَلَ hope, expect). Qal Pt. pass. f. מָה אֲמֻלָה לִבָּתֵךְ how weak is thy heart! Ez 16:30 (but מַה־לִּי וְלִבְרִיתֵךְ); Puʿl. Pf. אֻמְלַל Jo 1:10 +; אֻמְלְלָה Is 33:9 +; אֻמְלְלוּ Je 14:2 etc.;—be or grow feeble, languish; of loss of fertility (woman) 1 S 2:5 Je 15:9; of fisherman whose trade fails Is 19:8 (‖ אנה, אבל); in genl. in inhab. of smitten land Ho 4:3 (‖ תֶּאֱבַל הָאָרֶץ); Is 24:4 cf. infr. usually subj. inanim., personif.; שַׁדְמוֹת חֶשְׁבּוֹן Is 16:8; cf. † [דָּלַל] vb. hang, be low, languish (NH Hiph. thin, thin out vines, etc.; Assyrian dalâlu, be weak, humble ZimBP 74.97; Arabic دَلَّ idirect, guide, دُلَّ be directed, guided; دَلْدَلَ put in motion, commotion; تَدَلْدَلَ be in motion, hang, dangle; also دَلٌّ amorous, coquettish, gesture or behaviour of women)— Qal Pf. דַּלֹּתִי ψ 116:6, דַּלּוֹתִי 142:7; 1 pl. דַּלּוֹנוּ ψ 79:8, דָּֽלֲלוּ, Is 19:6, דַּלּוּ Is 38:14 Jb 28:4 (on דַּלְיוּ Pr 26:7 cf. דָּלָה);—hang, ‘depend,’ Jb 28:4 (of one descending a miner’s shaft ‖ נָעוּ); be low, of streams Is 19:6 (‖ דָֽרְבוּ); be low, brought low, metaph. of distress ψ 79:8; 116:6; 142:7; languish, of eyes, look languishingly (Che) Is 38:14.— Niph. [מָלַל] vb. languish, wither, fade (apparently secondary √ of אמל q.v.);— Qal Impf. 3 ms. יִמַּל Jb 18:16; וַיִּמָּ֑ל Jb 14:2; 3 mpl. יִמָּ֑לוּ Jb 24:24 ψ 37:2 (so Hup De and most; > Niph. from IV. מלל Thes);—hang down, wither, fig. of man Jb 14:2 (כְּצִיץ); of wicked מִתַּחַת שָֽׁרָשָׁיו יִבָ֑שׁוּ וּמִ֫מַּעַל יִמַּל קְצִירוֹ 18:16; כְּרֹאשׁ שִׁבֹּ֫לֶת יִמָּ֑לוּ 24:24 (‖ יִקָּפְצוּן, הֻמְּכוּ); כֶּחָצִיר מְהֵרָה יִמָּ֑לוּ ψ 37:2 (‖ יִבּוֹלוּן). Poʿl;. Impf. יְמוֹלֵל ψ 90:6 it withereth (of grass; + וְיָבֵשׁ).

† [דָּאֵב] vb. become faint, languish (NH id. Hiph.; cf. Arabic دَأَبَ toil, weary oneself; v. also דְּאָבָה, דְּאָבוֹן & cf. דוב)— Qal Pf. 3 fs. דָּֽאֲבָה ψ 88:10 (subj. עַיִן); Inf. לְדַאֲבָה Je 31:12 לֹא יוֹסִיפוּ לְד׳ (subj. ransomed Israel);—Je 31:25 has נֶפֶשׁ דָּֽאֲבָה, of hunger (‖ נֶפֶשׁ עֲיֵפָ֑ה), where adj. or pt. seems needed; Hi Gf דְּאֵבָה or דֹּאֲבָה (the punctuators had, according to them, the Aramaic participle in mind); Thes makes relative clause.

† [קָמֵל] vb. be decayed (Syriac ܩܡܰܠ be mouldy, decay);— Qal Pf. 3 ms. קָמַ֑ל Is 33:9 Lebanon mouldereth; 3 pl. קָמֵ֑לוּ 19:6 (of קָנֶה וָסוּף).
