† סָרַר vb. be stubborn, rebellious (usually towards י׳) (NH id., (rare); Assyrian sarâru);— Qal Pf. 3 ms. ס׳ יִשְׂרָאֵל Ho 4:16 Isr. is stubborn; Pt. act. בֵּן סוֹרֵר וּמוֹרֶה Dt 21:18, cf. v 20; בָּנִים סוֹרְרִים Is 30:1, עַם סוֹרֵר 65:2, דּוֹר ס׳ וּמֹרֶה ψ 78:8 (all of Isr.); לֵב ס׳ וּמוֹרֶה Je 5:23; פָּרָה סֹרֵרָ֔ה Ho 4:16 (sim. of Isr., v. supr.); as pred. שָׂרֵיהֶם סוֹרְרִים Ho 9:15 cf. † I. שׁוֹבָב adj. backturning, recusant, apostate (perhaps for מְשׁוֹבָב, Pt. Pōʿl. Ol§ 251 b Ges§ 52 s Köi. 454);—שׁ׳ Is 57:17; pl. שׁוּבוּ בָּנִים שׁוֹבָבִים Je 3:14, 22.—שׁובבים Je 50:6 Kt שׁוֹבְבוּם 𝔊 Comm., cf. √ Pōʿl.

† שׁוֹבֵב adj. backturning, apostate (perhaps for מְשׁוֹ׳, v. i. שׁוֹבָב);—as subst., לְשׁו׳ Mi 2:4 (but read prob. שׁוֹבֵינוּ our captors); f. הַבַּת הַשּׁוֹבֵבָה Je 31:22 (of Israel), 49:4 (of Ammon).

† I. [מָרָא] vb. only Hiph. Impf. 3 fs.: meaning dub., perhaps beat the air, or flap the wings, cf. Di De (and Wetzst in De), Bu Du (cf. Arabic مَرَى whip, urge on a horse?);—תַּמְרִ֑יא תִּשְׂחַק לַסּוּס וּלְרֹכְבֽוֹ׃ Jb 39:18 she (the ostrich) flaps away, she laughs at the horse and his rider.
