1. encampment, settlement — Feminine noun denoting an encampment, settlement, or walled enclosure, from the root idea of surrounding or enclosing (cf. Syriac 'sheepfold'). Used of the nomadic encampments of Ishmael's descendants (Gen 25:16), the encampments of the Midianites destroyed by Israel (Num 31:10), the settlements of the Kedarites (1 Chr 6:54), and the camps of the Philistines in Ezekiel's prophecy (Ezek 25:4). Also used of the desolate camp of the enemy as a sign of divine judgment (Ps 69:25). 5×

2. battlement, row — Architectural sense denoting a battlement, parapet, or row of stones atop a wall. Used of the battlement of silver built upon the beloved in the Song of Solomon (Song 8:9), and of the rows or courses of the temple structure in Ezekiel's vision (Ezek 46:23). This sense extends the enclosure meaning to fortified architectural features rather than tent-encampments. 2×
