† [תָּכַן] vb. regulate, measure, estimate (cf. Aramaic Pa. תַּכֵּן (rare) prepare (= הֵכִין, כּוֹנֵן); according to RySyn. d. Wahren u. Guten 33 a secondary √ from כון);— Qal Pt. estimate, fig.: וְתֹכֵן רוּחוֹת י׳ Pr 16:2, so (לִבּוֹת) 21:2; 24:12. Niph. 1. Pf. 3 pl. נִתְכְּנוּ עֲלִלוֹת [לוֹ] וְלֹא 1 S 2:3 by him (י׳) are actions estimated. 2. Impf., be adjusted to the standard, i.e. right, equitable: subj. דֶּרֶךְ (of י׳ and of Israel), 3 ms. יִתָּכֵן Ez 18:25(×2), 29(×2); 33:17(×2), 20; 3 mpl. יִתָּֽכְנוּ 18:29, יִתָּכֵּ֑נוּ v 25. Pi. Pf. 3 ms.: mete out, מַיִם תִּכֵּן בְּמִדָּה Jb 28:25; וְשָׁמַיִם בַּזֶּרֶת ת׳ Is 40:12 (‖ מדד, כול); מִי ת׳ אֶת־רוּחַ י׳ v 13 (v. † II. [סָלָה] vb. weigh, balance (‖ form of סָלָא q.v.);— Pu. Impf. 3 fs. לֹא־תְסֻלֶּה בְּכֶתֶם Jb 28:16 it cannot be weighed against (estimated in) gold of Ophir, cf. v 19.

† [סָלָא] vb. weigh (Arabic سَلَأَ pay promptly Lane1398; cf. Sab. סלא consecrate, devote HomZMG xivi (1892), 531; Sud. Arab. Chrest. 124);—only Pu. Pt. הַמְסֻלָּאִים בַּפָּ֑ז La 4:2 they who were weighed against gold, reckoned of such value.—Cf. also סָלָה²" dir="rtl" >II. סלה.
