† סִיג, שִׂיג n.[m.] 1. a moving back or away; 2. dross (what is removed from metal);—abs. סִיג Ez 22:18 Qr (סוג Kt), שִׂיג 1 K 18:27 (שׂ for ס, but v. infr.); pl. סִיגִים (van d. H. סִגִּים) Is 1:22 + 3 times; סִגִֿים Ez 22:18 + 2 times; sf. סִינָ֑יִךָ Is 1:25;— 1. a moving back, away: שִׂיג לוֹ 1 K 18:27 om. 𝔊L, dittogr. for שִׂיחַ Klo Bur. there is a moving back to him = he has moved back, away (proposes of temporary withdrawal, diff. from דֶּרֶךְ journey). 2. dross, usually of silver Pr 25:4 (מִכָּ֑סֶף), 26:23 (כֶּסֶף ס׳), so (fig. of Isr.) Is 1:22 cf. v 25, Ez 22:18b (סִיגִים כֶּסֶף MT, בְּתוֹךְ כ׳ ס׳ 𝔊 Co Berthol;—Co del. ס׳, not so Berthol Toy), cf. v 18a. 19; indef. ψ 119:119.

† עֹפֶרֶת n.m. Je 6:29(si vera l. Qr) lead (√ dub.; prob. foreign word; cf. 𝔗 אֲבָרָא lead, Syriac ܐܰܒܳܪܳܐ, and (as Aramaic loan-word) Arabic أَبَار [v. Dozy], Frä152; perhaps also Assyrian abaru, a metal, magnesite according to HilprAssyriaca i (1894), 80 ff. Hpt1b. 83);—כִּכַּר ע׳ Zc 5:7 a round weight (disc) of lead, אֶבֶן־הָעו׳ v 5; with other metals (v. בְּדִיל): עוֹ׳ Ez 22:18, 20; 27:12, הָעֹפָ֑רֶת Nu 31:22 (P); עֹפ׳ also Jb 19:24 (with which chiselled letters are filled according to Di and most; Bu reads בְּע׳ in [a tablet of] lead); also (as flux) Je 6:29 (reading Qr; so Gf Co; emend. Gie); עוֹ׳ in sim. Ex 15:10 (song).

† בְּדִיל n.[m.] alloy, tin, dross (orig. that which is separated from precious metal; cf. Plin. Hist. Nat. xxiv. 16, xxxiii. 9)—בּ׳ abs. Nu 31:22 + 4 times; Pl. sf. בְּדִילָ֑יִךְ Is 1:25;— 1. alloy, Is 1:25 fig. of evil of Jerusalem, which י׳ will remove (הֵסִיר; ‖ סִגָ֑יִךְ). 2. tin (plumbum album) Nu 31:22 (P; + זָהָב, כֶּסֶף, נְחשֶׁת, בַּרְזֶל, עֹפָ֑רֶת); fig. of Isr. Ez 22:18 (+ נְחשֶׁת, בַּרְזֶל, עוֹפֶרֶת); in simile v 20 (+ id. + כֶּסֶף); as article of commerce brought to Tyre from Tarashish Ez 27:12 (+ כֶּסֶף, בַּרְזֶל, עוֹפֶרֶת). 3. plummet, הָאֶבֶן הַבְּדִיל (appos.) Zc 4:10.
