† [בָּלָה] vb. become old and worn out (Arabic بَلِىَ, Aramaic בְּלֵי, ܒܠܴܐ, Ethiopic በልየ id.)— Qal Pf. בָּלְֽתָה Dt 8:4, בָּלוּ 29:4 +; Impf. יִבְלֶה Jb 13:28 etc.; Inf. c. sf. בְּלֹתִי Gn 18:12;—wear out (intr.), especially of garments Dt 8:4; 29:4(×2), all c. מֵעַל pregn. wear out (and fall) from upon … (hence Ne 9:21), Jos 9:13; fig. of the heavens (with sim. of garment) Is 50:9 ψ 102:27 כַּבֶּגֶד יִבְלוּ, the earth Is 51:6 כַּבֶּגֶד תִּבְלֶה; the bones (through suffering) ψ 32:3; afflicted man Jb 13:28 וְהוּא כְּרָקָב יִבְלֶה (‖ כְּבֶגֶד אֲכָלוֹ עָשׁ); of an aged and decrepit woman Gn 18:12 (J) אַחֲרֵי בְלֹתִי after I am worn out. Pi. caus. of Qal. a. wear out (trans.), fig. La 3:4 בִּלָּה בְשָׂרִי וְעוֹרִי, ψ 49:15 and their form לְבַלּוֹת שְׁאוֹל is for She’ôl to consume away (others read לִבְלוֹת is for wasting away [Dr§ 204], connecting שׁ׳ with foll.), 1 Ch 17:9 לְבַלֹּתוֹ to wear it (Isr.) out (altered from לְעַנּוֹתוֹ 2 S 7:10), cf. Dn 7:25 Aramaic b. wear out by use, use to the full, Is 65:22 and the work of their hands יְבַלּוּ they shall use to the full, enjoy, Jb 21:13 they wear out their days in prosperity (Qr here יְכַלּוּ complete, which perhaps is the true reading in both passages; cf. Ex 5:13 Jb 36:11).—On בַּ֜לּוֹתִ֗י ψ 92:11, v. sub בָּלַל²" dir="rtl" >בָּלַל.

† II. [שָׁעַע] vb. Pilp., etc., sport, take delight in, delight (usually made = I. שׁ׳ smooth over, please; Buhl cp. Aramaic ܫܥܳܐ, Ithpe. sport, trifle, Vulg.Ar. مشعشع (loan-word?) VollersZMG xiv (1891), 86, 1. 3);— Pilp. Pf. 3 ms. consec. וְשִׁעֲשַׁע Is 11:8 the suckling shall sport on (עַל) the cobra’s hole; 1 s. שִׁעֲשָׁ֑עְתִּי ψ 119:70 I take delight in thy law (acc.; but? read שַׁעֲשֻׁעָ֑י, v 77); Impf. transit. 3 mpl. יְשַׁעַשְׁעוּ ψ 94:19 thy consolations delight my soul (acc.). Polp. Impf. 2 mpl. תְּשָֽׁעֳשָׁ֑עוּ Is 66:12 upon (עַל) the knees shall ye be fondled. Hithpalp. Impf. 1 s. אֶשְׁתַּעֲשָׁ֑ע ψ 119:16 in (ב) thy statutes will I delight myself, cf. v 47.

† II. [פַּ֫חַד] n.[m.] thigh (prob. loan-word (through Aramaic, otherwise ذ = ז) from Arabic فَخِذٌ thigh and (cf. WeGGN, 1893, 479) sub-tribe, Palm. פחד tribe);—גִּידֵי פַחְדּוֹ Jb 40:17 Kt the sinews of his thigh (Qr du. פַחֲדָיו), of hippopotamus.

† [שֵׁ֫כֶן ?] n.m. dwelling;—sf. שִׁכְנוֹ Dt 12:5 (cf. שכן dwelling Ecclus 14:25), but v. √ Pi.

† תְּכוּנָה n.f. arrangement, preparation, fixed place;— 1. arrangement, disposition תְּכוּנָתוֹ Ez 43:11, i.e. the arrangement of the house (del. Co with 𝔊 codd.) 2. preparation, וְאֵין קַצֶה לַתְּכוּנָה Na 2:10 and no end to the preparation (i.e. things prepared, supply, store). 3. fixed place, i.e. dwelling-place, of God (= מָכוֹן) תְּכוּנָתוֹ Jb 23:3.
