Am 3:12 וּבִד׳ עָ֑רֶשׂ; punct. & meaning dub. all ancient Vrss דַּמֶּשֶׂק, and so Pusey; HoffmZAW iii. 102 (‘in Damascus on a couch’) al., yet this hardly suitable in context; Thes Hi Ew Baur Ke Gunning RV al. follow MT, & render damask, silk, etc. (Arabic دِمَقْسٌ connex. with city דַּמֶּשֶׂק (Arabic دِمَشْقُ) disputed; according to Frä40.288 Arabic دِمَقْسٌ is by metath. from مِدَقْسٌ, & this a loan-word from Syriac ܡܝܛܟܣܐ & this from Gk. μέταξα (Old Lat. metaxa)).
